Double Oak Twice Barreled
A bourbon made with twice the craftmanship of most. A bold statement from Jim Beam. This whiskey is crafted in charred oak barrels and then aged a second time in separate, deeply charred oak barrels. The result is a bourbon intense in rich, woody flavor and quite smooth in taste.
NOSE:
Vanilla, Cinnamon, caramel
PALATE:
Caramel, toffee, a hint of fruit and vanilla
FINISH:
Long and a bit peppery.
The Black edition from Jim Beam is a marriage of whiskeys aged for 8 years(some say 6 years or even less and Jim Beam has yet to give an official answer) before bottling at 43% in new charred, American oak. 43% is slightly higher than the standard bourbon proof, proffering greater complexity.
NOSE:
Vanilla and Caramel.
PALATE:
Oak, caramel and fruit.
FINISH:
Oak, caramel and vanilla that lingers on.
I like confidence and this bottle’s makers definitely are. Does this bourbon live up to the hype? Well, even though bottle is unique the recipe remains the same. Jim Beam’s distinct flavor and the makers’ experience is a sure bet.
NOSE
Apples, rye spice, and vanilla.
PALATE
Caramel, brown sugar, crackers, rye spice, and oak.
FINISH
Dried apricot, toasty oak and baking spices.
Come as a friend, leave as family. That is Jim Beam’s motto. My guess is that that is the reason Jo Nesbo’s Harry Hole loved it so much. This bourbon is aging for 4 years in newly charred American white oak, thus the elegant, smooth and refined character.
NOSE
Quite sweet with gentle notes of vanilla, caramel and cut hay, a touch of fresh corn fields and a little cereal sweetness, like the bluegrass fields of Kentucky.
PALATE
Toasty oak and all the requisite notes of vanilla, caramel and crème anglaise, a little spice and pepper.
FINISH
Toasty oak and resin with a some sweetness.

Powerful peat-smoke with a hint of the sea-water salt, with a citrus sweetness.
PALATE
A rich dried-fruit sweetness, clouds of smoke, strong barley-malt flavours.
FINISH
Huge, long, warming and peppery in the finish with an appetising sweetness.
Cardhu is known, in general, for being an easy-drinking and sweeter style of Speyside whisky. Gold Reserve, in particular, has aged gracefully in toasted oak casks, that gives birth to notes of toffee apples.
